The Listening Canvas is an interactive sound installation that invites audiences to engage in tactile and sonic interactions with a canvas displaying found materials such as plastics, cardboard, fabric and foil. The canvas reacts to touch and vocal sounds treating the acoustic sounds produced by visitors in real time and triggering sound synthesis. Plant stems and leaves are also provided to interact with the canvas. Sound is displayed through transducers attached to hanging foam sheets. By exploring the sounds created with found materials, audiences are invited to participate in reconfiguring our understanding of and connections with the world that surrounds us challenging binary conceptions of nature and culture towards a new sound ecology.
Exhibited at NIME 2024 in Utrecht.
